Keith Blake

Keith Blake - Technical Information Manager, Alvis Vickers Ltd

As Technical Information Manager at Alvis Vickers, Keith is currently responsible for user publications for the range of Armoured Fighting Vehicles for UK MoD and Private Venture customers around the world, including development of advanced IETP-Integrated demonstrators. Current AECMA S1000D related work includes responsibility for production of the CSDB for the tri-national multi-variant Boxer program and support to FRES. Past SGML and AECMA S1000D related work included supply of updates to RAF policy documents, responsibility for the LANCER team Electronic Documentation on the TRACER program, membership of the Def Stan 00-60 Technical Documentation Tasking Forum and involvement in the Navy Legacy Documentation Conversion project.

 
 
Bruce Brooke

Bruce Brooke - IDE Programs Manager, Northrop Grumman Space Technology

Currently, Bruce Brooke is the Integrated Digital Environment (IDE) Business Area Programs Manager for Northrop Grumman Space Technology. He has managed OCAEC IDE business development and program management activities in Oklahoma City since January 1996. Currently, he manages programs at WP-AFB, WR-ALC, OO-ALC and OC-ALC for the E-3 AWACS, B-1B, ICBM weapon systems and the AFMC Tech Data SPO, each relating to Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals and Integrated Digital Environments. Bruce participates in several USAF & NATO IETM/P and XML working groups and chairs the NGST AEC Integrated Digital Environment IPT.

 
 
Jon Buresh

Jon Buresh – Director Technical Data, The Boeing Company

Jon Buresh is the Director of Technical Data for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, responsible for Maintenance Information Systems, Integrated Logistics Data Services and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs). He is chairman of the Boeing Technical Data Synergy Team that coordinates strategies for technical data throughout Boeing. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI).

Prior to joining Boeing, he was a Commander in the US Navy, and served as a helicopter pilot, maintenance officer, training officer and an acquisition manager at the Naval Air Systems Command. He received a BSc in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and a MSc in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California.

 
 
Margaret Christison

Margaret Christison – UK MoD

Margaret Christison is an Information Systems specialist who has spent several years working with MOD IPTs and Industry to develop a better understanding of the business drivers for sharing information across enterprise boundaries. Margaret is now Head of Specialisation for Product Data Standards for MOD and is the MOD UK Board member of PLCS inc, which is a joint Government and Industry initiative to develop ISO10303 (Standard for Exchange for Product data) to address product support information requirements. She is responsible for MOD policy on the use of product data standards and is currently involved in a number of early PLCS implementation projects.

 
 

William Downie - Managing Director, STATS-NNC Ltd

STATS-NNC is a Knowledge Management Company producing, managing and developing systems and content dynamically in XML.

Will has a marketing and systems development background covering the biopharmaceuticals and publishing industries and more latterly the defence, nuclear and oil and gas industries with STATS. With a bent for alternative strategic approaches to vertical marketplace effectiveness, Will was a key member of the Publishers Association and Book Industry Communications working party that developed and introduced an XML-based referencing and e-business trading system to the publishing industry following the collapse of the Net Book Agreement.

 
 
Svante Ericsson

Svante Ericsson- Senior Consultant and Project Manager, Sörman Information & Media AB

Svante is a Senior Consultant and Project Manager for Sörman Information and Media AB, Sweden. He has been leading projects aimed at structured, standardised information solutions since the early 1990s. His main activities have been developing and implementing strategies and methods to manage technical information within the Swedish defence industry. Svante has been closely involved in developing and maintaining S1000D.

Ericsson’s professional history includes employments as assistant researcher at the University of Uppsala, and up-holding the Terrestrial Geodata Service on behalf of the National Board of Natural Sciences of Sweden.

 
 

Edward Frankland - Business Development Manager Customer Information Services, BAE Systems

Ed started his career as a systems engineer at BAE Systems working on Eurofigher Life Support and Cockpit Avionics Design. Following a year on Eurofighter Technical Management in Munich, Ed joined the newly formed Customer Solutions and Support heading Business Planning within the central strategy team in Farnborough.

Moving back to the North West two and a half years ago Ed assumed his current role as Business Development Manager of BAE Systems’ Customer Information Services (CIS) and has been primarily involved with the development of the trilogi contract.

 
 


Connell Gallagher, President, ParallelGraphics Limited

Connell has led the development of the ParallelGraphics Virtual Manuals technology over the last five years. This technology is an open standard solution that enables manufacturing companies to combine their existing 3D CAD and PDM data with their operating and procedural manuals to produce web-enabled interactive 3D simulations (Virtual Manuals) that significantly enhance the communication of maintenance and operating procedures. Connell has been very active in the development of open standards for 3D on the internet both in his role as ParallelGraphics' representative to the Web3D Consortium's CAD Working Group and more recently as a member of the Advisory Board of the 3D Industry Forum.

 
 

Lieutenant Commander Gordon Gillan, Royal Navy

A Weapon Engineer Officer by specialisation, Gordon has been employed in a range of procurement and support jobs as well as time at sea. IT has been a common thread, developing early Command Support System in the 90s and latterly developing and deploying a computerised pay system in Ships. Two charge appointments, as the Senior Weapon Engineer in HMS Illustrious and more recently as the Weapon Engineer Officer in HMS Sheffield have well prepared him for his current role in the Business Development Group of the Warship Support Agency. With dual roles he is responsible for the Fleet Acceptance of the various projects within the Group as well as being the Project manager for Electronic Publications (Afloat).

 
 
Paul Haslam

Paul Haslam – Managing Director, Ten on Eleven

Following a maintainer career in the Royal Air Force, Paul has been involved with the development of the electronic documentation parts of Defence Standard 00-60 since its inception. He is currently serving on the core AECMA committee of the TPSMG, as a Chief Editor and as Chairman of the LPWG, which is responsible for developing S1000D to cover land systems. He is Managing Director of his own company, Ten On Eleven Ltd, specialising in electronic publications.

 
 
John Havill OBE

John Havill OBE - BAE Systems

A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, John Havill has a deep understanding of engineering and support management issues gained from 30 years experience as an Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy.

John now leads the Support Data group at the Type 45 Destroyer Prime Contract Office in Bristol. Tasked with providing an information system able to better manage in-service support for the Warship, John and his team are developing and implementing new data management techniques to deliver technical information, training information and Electronic Performance Support outputs dynamically from configured single source data.

 
 

Mike Hennessey, General Dynamics Canada

Mike is currently the ILS Technical Manager for General Dynamics Canada, Calgary Operations. He has been responsible for the development and delivery of both paper and electronic based documentation and technical publications since the mid 1990s. Major programs include the Canadian Tactical Command, Control and Communications System (TCCCS) and Athene System as well as the UK MoD BOWMAN program. Currently, his main focus is on the development of integrated software applications for Through Life Support Services.

 
 
Dennis Hoyland

Dennis Hoyland - Head of Specialisation for Technical Information, Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO), UK MoD

Trained as a mechanical engineer Dennis is now Head of Specialisation for Technical Information in the MOD. This covers the technical documentation service provision, control of drawings and multimedia services, policy/advice to DLO HQ, IPTs. Chairman of a number of international committees including the TPSMG that manages and develops AECMA S1000D and also the NATO Interactive ITDWG.

 
 
Toralf Johannessen

Toralf Johannessen - Managing Director, CORENA Norge AS

Since joining CORENA in 1992, Toralf has progressed through the ranks to his current position of Managing Director. During his career, Johannessen has been involved in designing and implementing the first SGML solutions for the ATA industry, and has been central in the design of CORENA’s recent AECMA S1000D product portfolio, that includes CSDB management and IETP browser solutions.

Johannessens experience covers implementations at world class OEMs and operators such as Boeing, Bombardier, Rolls-Royce, Eurocopter, Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Scandinavian Airlines.

 
 
Dr Timothy King

Dr. Timothy King - Executive Consultant, LSC Group

Timothy is a chartered engineer with over 15 years of experience in applying computer technology to the engineering process. At LSC, he is a member of the Enterprise Integration Technologies team, which provides consultancy and computer software capabilities for enterprise integration and engineering of both the processes and information for the product life-cycle.

For over five years, Timothy has been a participant in various standards development activities, including those related to ISO 10303 and ISO 13584 (Parts Library). He is the UK principal expert to ISO/TC184/SC4/WG02 (Parts Library) for the British Standards Institute (BSI). Dr. King is also the project co-ordinator for and technical participant in the Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) initiative that extends ISO 10303 to cover in-service support.

 
 

Alexander Lowe – Integration Co-ordinator, Saab Military Aircraft

Alexander currently works as an Integration Co-ordinator for Saab Military Aircraft - Gripen Customer Support. He is also a member of AECMA Simplified English Maintenance Group (SEMG) and National SE co-ordinator for Swedish Aerospace Industries.

Alexander trained and served in the RAF as an aircraft technician, primarily on C-130s at RAF Lyneham. He later joined BAe (Filton) working on F 1-11, VC 10 and Concord aircraft before moving to Sweden in 1986 to work on Saab 340 contract. In 1990 he joined Saab Aircraft Product Support (Civil) as technical author and later became a Simplified English (SE) instructor holding both internal and external SE training courses. He was a Consultant Project Manager (1998-2000) on the Saab Gripen Translation Project at Bowne Global Solutions.

 
 

Mike May – Head of Logistics Support Systems, Westland Helicoprters

Mike May is Head of Logistic Support Systems for Westland Helicopters. He introduced electronic documentation to Westland with the CAPS publishing system, and was for many years the UK SBAC representative on the AECMA 1000D Specification Working Group. He now heads the team that develops the Westland C-IETP browser application, and also manages several maintenance ground station programmes. His degree in law and dissipated youth spent playing in rock bands has been a key factor in preparing him for a career in Technical Publications.

 
 
Andrew Moorhouse

Andrew Moorhouse – Graphics Officer, UK MoD

Andrew Moorhouse is a Graphics Officer with the UK Ministry of Defence, he specialises in Graphics Standards for the production and delivery of Graphics in Technical Documentation. He is a member of the CGM Open Consortium, with several years of experience working with XML, SVG and CGM and is the co-chair of the ATA Graphics Style Standards Working Group (GSWG). He is also the UK MoD Graphics representative to AECMA’s Electronic Publications Working Group (EPWG). He is currently employed in the harmonisation of the graphical specifications between AECMA S1000D and the ATA iSpec 2200, the introduction of SVG and Multimedia standards to both specifications, further development of the graphic style and co-authored the revised illustration chapter 3.9.2 in S1000D version 2.

 
 

Andy Paterson, Babcock Design & Technology

Andy Paterson is responsible for project managing the provision of Interactive Through Life Support information to a variety of Royal Navy ships. His involvement in the evolution of effective information management for complex electro-mechanical assets will provide insight through lessons learned, customer comments and practical experience.

 
 
Miles Robinson

Miles Robinson – Commercial Director, Logistics Business Systems Ltd

Miles is the Commercial Director and co-founder of Logistics Business System Ltd (LBS), responsible for commercial, quality and training aspects within the company. Miles has been involved in the design, development and implementation of logistics systems and standards for the last fifteen years and has an in-depth knowledge of defence logistics having worked on programmes in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Prior to forming LBS in 1996 Miles worked for BAE Systems within Customer Support.

 
 

Suzanne Rooney – BAE Systems

Suzanne is a member of the joint DLO CTS TD and BAE Systems team that is responsible for implementing the trilogi corporate contract. Prior to joining the trilogi team, Suzanne spent fourteen years in the Technical Publications Group within the Avionic Systems Division of BAE Systems. During this time, she experienced first-hand the progress from traditional, hard-copy and fiche publications to IETP. As Brimstone publications project leader, she implemented the electronic documentation processes necessary to produce the data modules that were subsequently delivered as the first trilogiView ITD.

 
 
Dr David Searle

Dr. David Searle – Senior Consultant, Mekon Ltd

Dave is one of Mekon’s Galaxy of senior consultants, specialising in SGML/XML, FrameMaker and FDK development.

Originally a research scientist, Dave has been working in SGML (and more recently XML) application development for a variety of industry sectors since 1990. He has been developing applications with FrameMaker since 1989 and with FrameMaker+SGML, the FDK and the SGML API since 1987. He was a Senior Developer Support Engineer for Adobe Systems Europe from 1997 to 1999.


 
 
William shook

William Shook - Principal Instructional Design Specialist and Lead of the Advanced Distributed Learning Group, The Boeing Company

William is a Principal Instructional Design Specialist and Lead of the Advanced Distributed Learning group at the Boeing Company. He is also Principal Investigator for several on-going research and development projects including future Electronic Performance Support Systems, and information management systems. William is considered by many as a visionary in the area of information management, and the critical role data standards play in information delivery.

William currently serves on the European Association for Aerospace Industry’s (AECMA) working group and Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) working group. He is also the Instructional Design Committee Chairman for the Aviation Industry Computer based training Council (AICC).

 
 
John M. Smart

John M. Smart - Smart Communications

John Smart is a computational linguist who hails originally from Australia. Since 1986 he has founded and managed a technical documentation consultancy in New York City. John began his career as the licensor for Caterpillar Technical English and later focused on AECMA Simplified English. His firm offers software tools, text mining, six sigma and author training to global clients in aerospace and other industries. His belief is that Controlled English will be the lingua franca for the globalisation age.

 
 
Howard Perkins

Howard Perkins – Director Corporate Technical Services, Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO), UK MoD

Howard Perkins is Director Corporate Technical Services (CTS) and Director Heads of Specialisation is based at DLO Andover. CTS is a truly Purple organisation comprising subject matter expertise in many technical disciplines drawn from the Land, Sea and Air environments following the 2001 DLO Business Process Review. Howard is responsible for formulating technical policy and enabling CTS customers, mainly MOD Integrated Project Teams and the Front Line Commands, to achieve greater coherence coupled with enhanced value for money benefits for their programmes by implementing more efficient and effective technical and logistics support solutions.

 
 
Ian Proctor

Ian Proctor – Technical Manager, Continental DataGraphics

Ian served for 30 years with the British Army as a maintainer and manager in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, followed by 10 years experience in technical publications production, as both a technical author and manager. Ian is the Technical Manager for Continental DataGraphics at their Knaresborough site.

Ian is currently project managing the production of AECMA S1000D data modules in English, Dutch and German for the tri-national multi-variant Boxer program to support industry, user and logistic trials, and to populate the Boxer CSDB.

 
 
Dennitz Raitz

Dennis Raitz – Principle Specialist, The Boeing Company

Dennis (Denny) Raitz is a Principal Specialist at The Boeing Company. He has been involved with the development of Boeing’s Class IV IETM system (unofficially known as Quill) since 1994. His duties include F/A-18E/F IETM Data Coordinator, IETM author training and consulting, and IETM software testing. Denny has been with the McDonnell Douglas turned Boeing Company for 24 years as a technical writer on the F/A-18A/B/C/D, A-12, AFX technical publication programs and the F/A-18E/F IETM.

Denny has also been heavily involved with Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Technical Publication activities. His recent involvement with the European IETM specification (AECMA) has led to a collaborative effort of developing an international specification involving AIA, U.S. DoD, and European MoDs and industry.

 
 
Carl Johan Wilen

Carl-Johan Wilén - Appointed Specialist Informatics and Customer Support Standards, Saab Aerospace

Carl-Johan Wilén has more than 30 years of experience in information management and production in industry sectors such as Nuclear Power, Heavy Vehicles and Military Aircrafts. Carl-Johan is a Member of AECMA Customer and Product Support Committee, and The Swedish Defence Industries CALS Group. He is also industry chair and one of the driving forces behind S1000D.

Carl-Johan joined Saab Military Aircraft as Manager Tech Pubs in 1981. From 1994 onwards he was responsible for the development, maintenance and support of Customer Support Information Systems. He was promoted to Appointed Specialist - Informatics and Customer Support Standards in 1998. Carl-Johan joined the AECMA Documentation Working Group in 1982 and in 1984 participated in the development of the Technical Publications Specification S1000D.


 
 
Chris Wood

Chris Wood - Technology Manager, BAE Systems

Chris Wood is the Technology Manager for the Customer Information Services (CIS) Team within the Customer Solutions & Support Group of BAE Systems.

Chris was a member of the AECMA (European Aerospace) Technical Publications Management Group for 3 years and before that a member of the AECMA Electronic Publications Working Group for 3 years.

In his role as Technology Manager, he is required to develop strategic solutions – trilogiView being an example - in the field of Customer Information Management by evaluating current and emerging technologies to ensure that the Operational Teams within CIS are supported by appropriate technological solutions.

Chris has presented a series of papers to various Conferences within Europe over the past 5 years. He has over 12 years experience as a Technical Author and managed a large Publishing and Printing Group within BAE Systems for 5 years before taking on the role of Technology Manager.

 
 
Peter Zimmermann

Peter Zimmermann – Special Adviser for Information Technology, EADS

Peter is a Special Adviser for Information Technology in the area of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). Peter has a great deal experience in text and image processing systems within the military aircraft business unit of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS). He is the adviser for application and adaptation of new information processing technologies in customer and support operations. Until recently, he was chair of the AECMA/AIA Electronic Publications Working Group (EPWG), and is now European co-chair. The EPWG is responsible for all electronic aspects of S1000D, the tri-service standard for technical publications.
